OUR MISSION
Flowtoys seeks to inspire creative expression and optimal experience through exploration of movement. Our toys have given us a means of getting into our bodies, enhancing awareness of our surroundings and stretching our physical and mental limits. They have provided us with a path for meditation through movement, expression through performance, endless entertainment and wonderful communities of friends and family around the world who share our interest in flow. We wish to share these life-enhancing experiences and opportunities and provide you with quality tools and support to explore the realm of flow.

Sean von Stade: Flowtoys Founder, Chief Toymaker and Inventor. Sean enjoys nothing more than improving things and developing tools to fill people's needs (except maybe dancing with his two 4' flowstaffs). As the current line of flowtoys products becomes more dialed in, he looks forward to bringing new products to market and spending more time developing and designing custom items, installations, performances and consulting on creative projects. Prisna Nuengsigkapian: Flowtoys Co-founder, Chief Manager, and Prolific Idea Machine. Prisna loves creating order, organizing information and strategizing the spread of flow to the world. She also responds to all your emails almost immediately and finds her flow in poi and dancing with her flow-wands. More.

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Design principles: We design products that are durable, affordable, rechargeable and modular with easily replaceable parts - all our products are quality, built-to-last and come with a lifetime warranty. We believe that rechargeability is key for any illuminated product and do not support cheap disposable novelty items. We have designed our products such that a user can easily replace or upgrade any component rather than having to purchase a whole new product if a single part should fail. Our products are designed to be interactive - while many flowtoys also serve as beautiful ambient lighting or fashion accessories, we seek to facilitate play, practice and a state of flow among users. Our designs are often influenced by the beauty of our natural world and seek to inspire reflection through interesting and beautiful aesthetic features.
Production principles: Our production is guided by resource, energy and material considerations. Durability is key with our manufactured products as we consider this to be a critical difference between sustainable and disposable products. Most of our parts and many of our products are produced in-house with great consideration towards material efficiency and re-use. Our packaging is minimal, recyclable and often made from recycled products or re-used materials. We suggest alternative uses for flowtoys that are no longer in use, and offer an end-of-life take-back program, re-using scraps in art and other projects.
Operation principles: Our operations are guided by resource and energy efficiency. Our production areas and workshops are made almost entirely from found and re-used materials. We use only energy efficient compact fluorescent lighting and minimize unnecessary office supplies, packaging and shipping materials, re-using wherever we can and when we absolutely have to print on clean paper, we use 100% post-consumer recycled paper. Order are mainly couriered to the post office via bicycle :)
OUR COMMITMENT TO THE WORLD WE LOVE
We think this world rocks. We want to help illuminate it and are aware of the positive and less than positive impacts of bringing new products into our planet. While creating joy, enhancing awareness of people’s bodies and expanding their minds, we recognize that we expend resources in the production of our toys – renewables and non-renewables alike. Much like life, it is practically impossible to evolve and experience this world without leaving an ecological footprint. We can however do our collective best to reduce that footprint and minimize our resource use, while optimizing our happiness, embracing learning opportunities and enjoying this incredible journey called life.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY: Both of us are efficiency fanatics and are constantly looking for ways to minimize our energy and material use, while maintaining a healthy level of productivity. All our lighting is compact-fluorescent or LED, our heater, which we rarely use is 99% efficient and we use power tools only when necessary. We have a wattmeter that shows how much each appliance uses and turn off equipment when not in use. We encourage y’all to do the same.
SUPPORT RENEWABLES: We encourage everyone to support renewable sources of energy that are appropriate for their region. Use rechargeable batteries and buy green power if you can – that way your flowlights will be even more sustainable. Educate yourself in the true costs and benefits of different types of renewable energy sources and the true impacts of the various climate offset programs available.
WALK, RIDE YOUR BIKE, TAKE PUBLIC TRANSIT: We encourage everyone to walk, skate, ride their bicycle and take public transit whenever they can. Your purchases are brought to the post office on our bicycles – no greenhouse gas or smog-causing emissions and we get a reason to leave the house and get some exercise almost every day.
REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE: We encourage everyone to reduce, reuse and recycle - in that order! We are conscious in buying only what we need and buying used stuff when we can. We re-use just about everything (scrap flowtoys parts make great laptop risers and containers for thin delicate items like feathers), and we recycle everything that our city’s recycling facility will take. Some of you probably do a whole lot more – thank you for your consciousness and inspiration. For those of you who are thinking of throwing your batteries into the trash, make a meaningful difference to the health of your neighbors and grandchildren and start recycling your batteries and switch to rechargeables!
